OH MY GOSH. Is this my favorite oolong? Most definitely. You can find this awesome tea here. Their website is currently down but if you email them they can send you some :)
Mmm smells like sweet butter with floral undertones.
Steep a palm full at 195F for 15-20 seconds, increasing your steeping time by a few seconds each steep. You can typically get around 15 steeps out of this tea! I’m brewing the milk oolong in my small 100ml gaiwan that I got from yunnan sourcing.
Milk Oolong has a very light buttery yellow color that darkens the longer you steep it. And it smells amazing!
Now for the TASTE! First infusion is sooooo creamy. It’s hard to believe that I am drinking tea! 2nd to 4th infusion embody a buttery, floral and very faint vegetal taste. By the 5th infusion I could taste more of vegetal and floral notes and less creamy. I love this tea. SO much. So I try to save it when I’m having a bad day. I would highly recommend this as a after dinner tea as a sweet and healthy treat.
If you have any questions or would like me to review certain tea, please send me a PM!
xoxo

I've heard so many good things about this tea from folks on Steepster. It's really hard to find high quality milk oolong outside of Taiwan because there are a lot of fakes out there.
ReplyDeleteWell unfortunately it IS flavored. I didn't find that out till later but I'm not sure if that affects if it is fake or not? Super yummy regardless. I've hunted for other milk oolongs and none of them taste as good.
DeleteHi! Garret here, from Mandala Tea. Thanks for the wonderful review. So many people are excited about this tea and the coffeehouses and restaurants we sell to go through a lot of this.
DeleteYes, this is an aromatized version of Jin Xuan, made to accentuate the naturally occurring creaminess of the stand alone leaf. Our supplier for this tea is an organic grower and the aromatization of this tea is done using only food grade product, also organic, with no dairy, gluten, soy, oil being used here.
We are working with this supplier now in order to find a good Jin Xuan oolong out of Taiwan to satisfy our customers who want just the unadulterated leaf. I suspect we will be doing plenty of taste testing in the coming weeks :)
Somebody's gotta do it, right?
Grateful,
Garret
